International Air Cadet Exchange
Day 2 Saturday July 21 |
Day two dawned bright and cloudless as our IACE crew prepared to spend the day observing a SAREX at Westover. With CAP cadets for ground team and pilots Maj Tim Nelson, Maj Jim Taylor and Capt Richard Werman our IACE visitors were able to observe both flight and ground operations. A simple scenario of a missing aircraft and signal picked up by other aircraft in the area led to a fairly easy find in a corn field in So. Deerfield. In addition to observing the ground team exercise and air operations our foreign cadets also spent some time with the media who wanted to learn more about this visit and the IACE program. WGGB TV of Springfield interviewed Cadet Boran Can Yalcin of Turkey and the local newspapers interviewed all. After the last sorties were finished and the paperwork completed it was time to relax and cool down in a backyard pool of Capt Wermans neighbor who graciously invited the whole gang over anytime. Cooling down builds up an appetite and there was Chinese food and pizzas at the Wermans for all. Tomorrow well be off to New Hampshire.
Westover Composite Squadron, all
participants attend the briefing which includes a safety briefing and other procedural
topics.
Maj. Tim Nelson goes over the grid coordinates with Boran and Capt Cindy Sanford.
IACE Cadets Ben Johnston, Boran Can Yalcin, and Berkay Damgaci do the pre-flight with Maj. Jim Taylor.
